Exploring the western cape
Defined by contrast and natural flow, the Western Cape brings together landscape, culture, and experience in a way that feels both complete and unforced. Over ten days, this journey is shaped not by pace, but by rhythm - each place arriving at exactly the right moment.

In Cape Town, beneath the flat-topped silhouette of Table Mountain and along the edge of the Atlantic, the journey begins with a balance of energy and ease. Culture unfolds through the streets of Bo-Kaap, the city opens from above, and the coastline draws everything outward. Days move between mountain, ocean, and neighbourhood life, while evenings gather around the water with a drink in hand - where the city softens and settles into its nocturnal rhythm.
From here, the pace shifts as the route moves into the Winelands. In Franschhoek, time slows almost without noticing. Mornings arrive gently, afternoons stretch across vineyard views, and long lunches become part of the day rather than a pause within it. It is a place defined not by movement, but by stillness, where each moment is given space. Home to some of the worlds finest wines.

The journey then follows the curve of the Whale Coast towards Hermanus, where the focus turns fully to the ocean. Here, everything quiets. Walks trace the cliffs above Walker Bay, meals unfold with uninterrupted sea views, and, in season, whales move slowly through the bay below. It is less about what you do, and more about allowing the setting to take over - a place to reset, breathe, and simply be present.

Extending east from the Whale Coast, the Garden Route introduces a different side of South Africa - one defined by indigenous forests, sheltered lagoons, dramatic coastline, and a landscape shaped by the meeting of mountains, rivers, and the Indian Ocean.
Widely regarded as one of the world's most scenic coastal drives, the route unfolds gradually through the agricultural landscapes of the Overberg, historic towns, expansive mountain ranges, and ever-changing ocean vistas before reaching the waterways and forested hills that characterise this region.
Based in Knysna, days are spent exploring both land and water, from the calm waters of the lagoon to the surrounding coastline and nature reserves that make this one of the country's most diverse environments. Further east, Tsitsikamma reveals a wilder landscape where ancient indigenous forests extend towards rugged shores, creating a striking contrast between forest, river, and ocean. Wildlife encounters, coastal exploration, and time on the water are balanced with slower moments, allowing space to appreciate the natural rhythm of the area.
Curated by SouthBound Stories, this extension offers a deeper exploration of South Africa's southern coastline, where diverse ecosystems, dramatic scenery, and a relaxed pace combine to create one of the country's most distinctive regions.
A Moment between worlds Cape Safari
Located in South Africa's Eastern Cape, the Addo region is characterised by a remarkably diverse landscape of dense spekboom thicket, open grasslands, river valleys, and low mountain ridges. This unique ecosystem supports one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in the country, providing habitat for elephant, lion, buffalo, rhino, leopard, and an exceptional variety of birdlife.
Unlike the vast savannahs found elsewhere in southern Africa, Addo's vegetation is greener, denser, and more varied, creating a different safari experience where wildlife moves through a mosaic of habitats.
Days are spent exploring this landscape on guided game drives, following seasonal movements and wildlife activity across the reserve. Between drives, the surrounding wilderness offers a sense of calm and seclusion, with uninterrupted views across the plains and valleys.
Evenings are spent outdoors beneath the Eastern Cape sky, where the pace of the day slows and the sounds of the bush become part of the experience. Curated by SouthBound Stories, this journey offers an immersive introduction to one of South Africa's most distinctive wilderness regions.
